Probiotics for women’s health

Next to cranberry, probiotics are very popular for preventing recurrent urinary tract problems. But can taking some good bacteria really have any benefit? The truth might surprise you.

An imbalance of vaginal bacteria is linked to bacterial vaginosis, which is usually treated with antibiotics, which are very effective. The problem is the problem often comes back, again, and again. Recurrent bacterial vaginosis is extremely distressing, which is why preventative solutions are so important.

Taking probiotics, which are best known for improving the balance of bacteria in your digestive system, has indeed been shown also improve the health of vaginal bacteria and may help prevent recurrent problems.

But not just any old probiotic will do! There are very specific probiotics that have been studied for female health; Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1, and Lactobacillus fermentum RC-14. The difference is these work, while others may not. So if you are looking for preventative probiotic that has been shown to help, its best to seek these out.
