Terranova is a UK-based company that was set up in 2008 by the wonderful Stephen Terrass. Stephen is the former technical director of Solgar UK, and has 35 years’ experience in the natural health industry. Stephen formulates all the products himself, and the range is ever-expanding!
When Stephen founded Terranova, he wanted to get away from the ‘pharmaceutical’ approach to supplements. What makes Terranova’s products so special is that they are all based on pure freeze-dried botanical and whole food ingredients, with each formula containing a specific blend of ingredients that works synergistically with the vitamins and minerals it contains. For example, the Easy Iron Complex contains rose hips, stabilised rice bran, green barley grass and acai berry; while the Full Spectrum Multivitamin contains spirulina, green barley grass, stabilized rice bran, sea buckthorn, blackberry and watercress. Most of the botanicals are organic or wild-crafted, and the majority are sourced from an organic herb farm called Eclectic Institute in Oregon, US.
What’s more, ALL Terranova’s products are completely free from fillers, binders and other excipients (inactive ingredients) and only come in capsules, powders and liquids rather than tablets. ALL products are suitable for vegans too. Terranova is of the few companies in the world to meet any of these criteria, never mind all of them!
All of these factors (especially using only the purest ingredients, and refusal to use manufacturing additives such as fillers and binders) mean that the products can cost considerably more to make than a standard tablet. However, one of Terranova’s principles is NOT to pass all these extra costs on to customers, and the company has aimed to keep its retail prices as low as possible.
So which are our favourite products? This is a difficult question, as we think all of them are great. However, we particularly recommend:
